Operations Director

This position works out of our Indonesia manufacturing sites (Landhi & Korangi) within the Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD).
As the Operations Director, you will lead end-to-end manufacturing operations across two sites, driving operational excellence, supply continuity, quality compliance, and strategic transformation. You will oversee a workforce of ~200 employees and ensure delivery of ~70 SKUs, supporting both local and export markets.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic direction and lead end-to-end operations across two manufacturing sites (Landhi & Korangi), encompassing Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Operational Excellence, EHS, Administration, and Security.
- Collaborate with Divisional functions and regional commercial to assure the production and supply of ~70 SKUs with an annual throughput of ~$44MM and business value of ~$33MM.
- Drive strategic performance improvement across multiple shift operation with ~200 employees.
- Ensure alignment with local regulations, cGMP, EHS, and Abbott's global quality standards.
- Champion new product launches and cost optimization and growth initiatives of the Indonesian and export business including internalization.
- Set priorities and strategies: Monitor actual vs. planned operations, take corrective actions as necessary to meet plan objectives. Accountable for operating expenses, capital budget and P&L. To achieve this:
- Excellent understanding of business including commercial and inter-connectedness of site operations and the larger business
- Understanding of regulatory environment
- Define operational strategy and priorities. Monitor performance against targets and implement corrective actions to ensure delivery of business objectives. To achieve this:
- Ability to understand business imperatives, changing external regulatory landscape and site capabilities and technologies to determine the strategic direction for the site to gain competitive advantage. Have a transformational mindset to keep pace with rapidly changing external environment and internal needs
- Strong execution orientation: Translates strategic priorities into operational reality; aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems to ensure strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results
- Robust supply chain management experience, including supply planning and interactions with demand management
- Strong understanding of Quality and experience of managing complex quality problems
- Overall accountability for operating expenses, capital budget and P&L. Monitor and control expenses, manage and optimize product costing and drive cost-efficiency initiatives. To achieve this:
- Financial acumen: understanding P&L levers for the site and impact of all decisions / lack of decisions on margin improvements
- Champion continuous improvement: lean manufacturing, and digital transformation initiatives to enhance productivity and agility. Ensure provision of the necessary training and resources (area, equipment, manpower etc.) to produce products of the required quality.
- Production & Supply Chain Execution: Ensure timely fulfilment of production targets and commercial demand. Lead Operations and support functions to meet and exceed quality and delivery standards.
- Quality & Compliance: Assure adherence to cGMP, EHS, and regulatory requirements. Ensure that the products are manufactured under conditions which meet EPO/ EHS Policies / Procedures, Local Regulatory and cGMP requirements and using approved documentation. Ensure timely execution of validation and calibration activities and ensure adherence to documentation requirements. To achieve this:
- Strong understanding of Quality and experience of managing complex quality problems
- Manufacturing Sciences & Technology: Provide strategic direction to divisional team co located in Karachi in manufacturing technology and equipment. To achieve this:
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes, operational excellence and technical expertise combined with experience of having led smaller sites / large production units to drive performance targets across KPIs, continuous improvement and enhanced productivity / efficiency
- Partner with commercial, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply chain & procurement to resolve quality issues and support market readiness.
- Coordinate with Quality information feedback with QA e.g. GMP Audits, Complaints, Market Returns, Trend Analysis Reports etc. Coordinate with QA, Regulatory and Materials Management in resolution of quality problems and disposition of nonconforming issues.
- Environment Occupational Health & Safety: Ensure that products are manufactured under controlled environment, meeting all Health, Safety and Housekeeping Standards. Assure compliance with local and Abbott EHS rules, policies and laws. Maintain a safe work- place.
Key Areas of Accountability :
Site Management:
- Deliver and improve site performance of the Indonesia site.
- Ensuring consistent performance, quality, and compliance across both locations.
- Delivery the Assure expansion project
Regulatory & Compliance Pressure:
- Indonesia and export market regulatory environment, especially with DRAP.
- Ensuring strict adherence to cGMP, EHS, and Abbott's global standards.
Supply Chain & Demand Fulfillment:
- Managing currently 66 SKUs with an annual sales of ~$34MM to 8 countries, expectation to double by 2032
- Aligning production with commercial demand and ensuring supply continuity.
Financial Accountability:
- Full responsibility for operating expenses, capital budgets, and P&L.
- Driving cost optimization while maintaining quality and compliance.
Talent & Culture Development:
- Leading workforce planning, succession, and capability building.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Supply Chain, or Science-related field
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, plant operations, or supply chain leadership
- Strong operational and business acumen, including P&L ownership
- Experience managing regulated environments (cGMP, EHS)
- Proven ability to lead large, cross-functional teams
