Sales Director
The Director of Sales leads the commercial and inside sales activities for the Packaging segment, reporting to the Business Segment Director, of the Engineered Interconnect & Packaging business unit. This role is responsible for driving profitable growth, developing a high performing sales organization, and strengthening customer relationships through technical credibility and operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering or technical background, deep experience in defense or aerospace manufacturing, and the ability to operate effectively from high-level commercial strategy down to hands-on support of inside sales activities.
This leader will play a key role in the development and execution of commercial strategies across pricing, forecasting, customer engagement, and cross functional alignment with Engineering, Operations, and Finance for global manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute commercial strategies that support revenue growth, margin improvement, and long-term business goals.
- Execute the pricing strategy, ensuring alignment with financial objectives, cost structures, and market competitiveness.
- Contribute to financial planning, forecasting, sales budgeting, and business performance analysis.
- Engage with customers through technically oriented discussions, product capability presentations, and value-based sales strategies.
- Provide market, customer, and competitive insights to inform business unit decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Inside Sales team to deliver exceptional service, accurate order processing, and effective communication with customers.
- Ensure timely, high-quality quotations and enforce disciplined adherence to pricing and approval guidelines.
- Oversee order management, backlog health, customer-driven production changes, and compliance with customer agreements.
- Implement strategies to increase quote-to-order conversion rates and strengthen customer retention.
- Drive continuous improvement of tools, workflows, and processes to enhance team efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Partner effectively with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Quality.
- Support new product development efforts by aligning customer requirements with engineering capabilities.
- Partner with Operations to ensure feasibility and alignment of customer schedules, technical requirements, and delivery expectations.
- Lead resolution of escalated customer issues including RMAs, complaints, and contractual queries.
Requirements for Consideration:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related).
- Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- 7-10+ years of progressive commercial or technical leadership within defense, aerospace, or industrial manufacturing.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand engineered products, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated success leading an inside sale, applications engineering, or technical sales team.
- Strong financial and analytical skills related to pricing, cost modeling, and margin management.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- High personal organization, resilience, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Experience with CRM systems, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work effectively across all functional groups and influence without authority.
Compensation: Salaried, $130,000 - $150,000 with incentive.
